TDMS Examinations and Assessment Information

This page will contain all the latest information that we have about examinations and assessment for Years 11 and 13.

Mr T. Dolan, Deputy Head (Curriculum and Achievement) & Acting Head of Sixth Form.

Latest information from HM Government

On 20th March 2020 the government published guidance about the cancellation of all GCSE and A-level courses for 2020, following the closure of school settings in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In its announcement, the government explained that there would be a "calculated grade process", which "will take into account a range of evidence including, for example, non-exam assessment and mock results, and the approach will be standardised between schools and colleges". Read the full announcement here.

On 26th March 2020, Ofqual issued further clarification on the awarding process for grades for 2020 in which they announced their plan to release detailed information by Easter 2020. Read the full statement here.

Latest information from Ofqual

Today, Friday 3rd April 2020, Ofqual have just published more detailed information on how final grades will be awarded for GCSE, BTEC and A-level courses. Teachers will submit one predicted grade for each student taking their subject, which will factor in coursework and also take into account expected progress from the mock exams. The initial deadline for the submission of marks will be 29th May 2020.

The TDMS response

In response to this situation, TDMS had a concerted drive to support students in completing their remaining coursework by having a collapsed timetable during the last full of school. To ensure that our students are in the best position for the awarding of final grades, we have set our own internal deadlines specifying when work needs to be completed. This means that all coursework, also termed as the Non Examined Assessment, must be submitted to teachers by the dates set out below.

GCSE and Level 2 BTEC coursework deadlines
Art & Design 7th May 2020
Health and Social Care 6th April 2020
Graphics and Resistant Materials 31st March 2020
Media Studies 20th April 2020
iMedia 14th April 2020
The deadline for all other subjects 15th May 2020

A-level and level 3 BTEC coursework deadlines
Health and Social Care 6th April 2020
Media Studies 20th April 2020
English A-level coursework 1st May 2020
The deadline for all other subjects 15th May 2020
Applications to join the Sixth Form September 2020

Applications to join the Sixth Form in September 2020

We have recently sent out letters to students and their parents offering places to study in the Sixth Form. We do need confirmation, preferably by email, to confirm your place for next year. The deadline for sending your confirmation is Thursday 2nd April 2020. Students that have confirmed their places will then receive further information including a reading list, a text book voucher and a technology voucher to support their studies. We will also ask you to think about which enrichment course you are in: Core Maths, EPQ, Art and Design or a Level 3 Diploma in Food - these are all 1 year courses equivalent to an AS-level qualification.

Due to the unprecedented situation that we find ourselves in, we will be starting our Year 12 courses earlier through Google Classroom. This will enable students to make an early start on their chosen courses and even to experiment with other subjects if they are still making up their minds.
